The Zen of Buffing

10/1/2011

All things come to an end, good or not. Sometimes we get to choose; sometimes we don’t know that we’re doing something for the last time until it’s over. In this case, I’ve chosen this to be my last regularly scheduled article for our club newsletter. You can read more in the accompanying article elsewhere in this issue.

More Power!

5/1/2011

As promised previously, let’s talk about the right way to add more power to your Miata. We could all use some more power, right? All those GPS units, cell phone chargers and satellite radios need juice. Wait, you thought I meant horsepower, didn’t you? That’s a whole ‘nother can of worms we’ll open some other day.

Choices, Choices, Choices

4/1/2011

You never can have too many choices, but sometimes the choices can be pretty bewildering… especially if you’re talking about suspension repair, modifications and parts. What to do?

Driving Where You Look

2/1/2011

We’ll get back to more technical stuff next month, I promise! I’ll share some thoughts about suspension and wheel/tire upgrades and what we’re doing to Jim Miller’s Copper Red ’08 PRHT. In the meantime though, I’d like to share a recent “adventure” with the thought that you might glean something useful from it. Thanks for indulging my little writing habit! :O)

That’ll Buff Right Out!

1/1/2011

That’ll buff right out! That’s the catch phrase many use when viewing a damaged car. It’s supposed to be funny, especially when the car is obviously damaged beyond repair. You’d be surprised though at what really can be simply buffed out under the right circumstances.

Details, Details, Details

5/1/2010

Yup, it’s all about the details… on your car, that is. We’re only about 7 weeks from the Arthritis Auto Show on July 9th and 10th. A number of folks have asked me about judging criteria, car prep and more, so I thought now would be a good time to talk about those things.

Brain Dump

3/1/2010

Brain dump? Yeah, this shouldn’t take long… This is one of those months where there’s no theme, just a bunch of miscellaneous stuff I’d like to share with you.

I Do Windows After All

1/1/2010

Geez, it’s 2010 already! I was just noticing that I’ve been doing this column for almost 4 years. Time flies and all that. I guess there’s another reason why the license plate says 2 WINDY, huh? Actually, I was looking back through my folder of previous prose due to the topic this month. You see, in our July 2008 issue, I did an article that proclaimed “I Don’t Do Windows”. Well, necessity being the mother that it can sometimes be, it turns out that I do windows after all.

Nursing it home in the dark

9/1/2009

Just about everyone has had that sickening feeling... something's wrong with the car and you're miles from home.  I've experienced it myself recently when the alternator belt let go on my '99… twice. :o(

My Favorite Tools

7/1/2009

…Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens; Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Oh wait, that’s a different list entirely! Last Saturday, THAT list would’ve included a rain poncho and umbrella since we were standing in the rain at the Arthritis Foundation Car Show. It was a really fun day, in spite of the rain. If you haven’t been out to it, you HAVE to come next year, as the Miata will be the featured marque! More details to follow…
