Back Stage Tour of the Ohio Theater - Saturday, February 24th

There was an item that was tentatively added to this year's activity calendar that has been firmed up. That is the Buckeye Miata Club tour of the Ohio Theater. This will be a complete guided tour of the Ohio Theater facilities and will include a light show and demonstration of their world famous Morton organ. The Morton organ is a magnificent, vintage pipe organ that has been delighting Ohio Theater patrons for many years.

The tour has been scheduled for Saturday morning February 24 to begin at 10:00AM. As with all Miata Club gatherings, I figured we could do a meal together and am open to suggestions as to whether we should do breakfast before the tour or lunch afterward. Let me know which option you would prefer and the majority will rule as to whether it is breakfast or lunch. Who knows; maybe we will do both!

This tour is not limited to Miata Club members. Please feel free to bring any family members or friends who may be interested in this activity. I'm sure that no one attending will be sorry that they have taken the time to do this tour.

The tour is not free. There is a charge of $185.00 to partake in all of the events that the theater tour offers. We usually plan on approximately 30 people attending this type of event. I am proposing a per person charge of $6.00 based on 30 people in attendance. If it is obvious that substantially more people will be there, the per person charge will be lowered accordingly. If for some reason we do not get our planned number of thirty, the club treasury will subsidize the shortfall. If we collect more than the required amount to cover the $185.00 charge on the day of the tour, any excess funds will be given to the club treasurer.

Please indicate your intentions to attend this BMC activity by replying via e-mail to:
dmcclees@columbus.rr.com or by giving me a call at 614-891-1663.

I realize tht there will be two BMC events scheduled for that day but the other is the Nieman's Annual Game Night, which is an evening event. Hopefully everyone who wants to do both of these worthwhile events will be able to do just that and not have to choose one of the two. Hoping to see many of you at both of these winter style events. The way this winter is going, this could become a Miata "drive" event.

Regards,
Bud McClees

Marietta Trip - Saturday, September 29th

So here's the plan! At least mine anyway... you're welcome to join me, meet us there or whatever you like.

The featured event of the weekend so far, is the big drive event on Saturday. We will be leaving from the Comfort Inn in Marietta at 10am. I've spoken to Chuck Ashton and he has a great route put together for us! He promises a great day of driving and sight-seeing in SE OH. There's plenty to do when you get back to Marietta as well. This is intended to be more of a self-guided drive (ala RiverRun), rather than a "group" drive with 10-15 cars. This way, it's not a parade, cars aren't backed-up and everyone can go at a pace they feel comfortable with. We will be driving some of the most scenic roads our state has to offer.

You're welcome to meet up and drive down with me if you like. I'm leaving from the Cracker Barrel at I-70 & Rt 256 in Pickerington at 7:30am on Saturday. Please arrive around 7:15 if you can. It's a little less than 2 hour drive to Marietta from Pickerington. That'll put us into Marietta at 9:30, so we get a break before starting out from there. The weather is supposed to be beautiful!

Please let me know if you plan to go and whether you plan to meet up with me to drive down together. You can simply meet us all at the Comfort Inn if you prefer.

That said, I should also tell you that I have to be back home on Saturday night. Family has scheduled an event that I can't miss. I'll probably head for home sometime around 6pm. So, if you'd like to go down for just the day and come back that evening, you can do the round-trip with me!

Please call or respond to this email to let me know your plans. 614-634-0285 (cell)

See ya!
- Scott

PS - Please bring your FRS radio with you if you have one.

5th Annual R.A.T. - Saturday, October 6th

The 5th Annual R.A.T. , a Buckeye Miata Club road trip through Amish country will be held on Saturday October 6, 2007.

The start will be at the McDonalds restaurant on SR 62 west of Johnstown. We will leave McDonalds at 08:37 and head east on SR 62, SR 541 and north on SR 60. Some northern Miatas may join us at Riverview High School on SR 60 just north of SR 36. At Riverview High School we’ll make a pit stop and hopefully find their facilities open. North we go on SR 60 to Kilbuck where we will take SR 62 east to SR 83 south a short distance we will turn left at County Rd 19 and leave the State routes for some secondary roads that will take us to Charm.
The annual Charm Days Festival is the following weekend so the little village will have fewer buggies (bad) but parking should not be a problem (good)
Keim Lumber Company will be open until noon on Saturday and is a must see for our woodworking members.
In Charm there is much to see. We will take time to explore the many shops.
A return activity this year will be graduation from Charm School. I plan to bring along a graduation gown and mortarboard for anyone liking their picture taken in front of Charm School. Bring your own camera.
At noon we’ll jump in our Miatas for a short drive to the Miller Bakery, a welcome stop suggested by the Johnsons. I plan to pick up some Lego candy sold there
After Charm our next stop will be the newly expanded Lehman Hardware Store in Kidron, an interesting store which features non-electric appliances, hand tools and things you didn’t think were made anymore.
This year we will include a late lunch Dump in Kidron a restaurant with no name, its located in the lower level of the Kidron Town & Country Store which is located a short distance south of Lehman Hardware and the auction barn. The owner may seat us in a room by ourselves. This restaurant closes at 2:30 so we will have to plan accordingly.

After a day of dodging road apples the group will head west to Loudenville. We will then take some back roads into Mohican State Park. This year the trees should be in full color. We will stop by a picnic area close to a covered bridge so bring some snacks and cool drinks. Before we leave Mohican SP and head for the State Route 97/ I 71 interchange we will discuss dinner plans. There are dinner options at the intersection or stay on SR 97 to Lexington where we could stop for dinner at Buck’s restaurant, a race fan kinda place. After dinner we will go our separate ways.

2007 auto cross season trophy night - Saturday, October 27th

Trophy night is scheduled for 5:30 on Saturday, October 27th at the City Barbeque near I 270 and Main Street on the east side. This restaurant is not far from Roosters - our old place, but much easier to get to. They have set aside one of their meeting rooms for us - they have two fully enclosed rooms with doors we can close. To determine which size room we need and to help pick out the menu please let me know whether you will attend and how many people you'll bring by sending me at e mail at the address below.

jajuracek@yahoo.com    or    Jerry.Juracek@motoristsgroup.com

28 drivers have qualified for trophies, and, for the first time we will also present the following trophies:

Sterling Moss Drivers Award for the most improved driver.

Mark Donohue Drivers Award for car preparation and driving  skill

Joey Chitwood Drivers Award for the best  "stunt driving" -  unintentional of course.

Six Runs and Six Wins for a perfect season

Driver of the Year

and an award for Outstanding Achievement

Mazda has provided some door prizes and has presented us with a $500.00 check to pay for dinner. Dinner and soft drinks are on the club.

Please send me an e mail by next Tuesday so I will know how much to order - I was thinking pulled pork sandwiches and sides.  Let me know if you would like chicken instead.

And, since you did spend some number of Sundays apart, significant others are invited (by significant other I mean a person, not a tool box or set of racing tires)...........thanks to the 15 people that have already RSVPed.

See you at 5:30 pm.
