"Come Fly Away" - Discovery Flight Raffle

Last September 2005 when the Gathering of the Green was held in Columbus, the generous owner of BJs Restaurant at Bolton Field donated an airplane ride for two for the event.  However, since most of the participants were from out of town we asked their permission to hold a raffle within our club and donate the money to the Ronald McDonald House.  They agreed.

So during the month of June we will be selling raffle tickets for $5.00 each.  This entitles the winner of the raffle to one Discovery Flight out of Bolton Field for two people.

The raffle tickets can be purchased at any BMC event during the month of June.  Also, tickets can be purchased by contacting Jane and Jerry Nieman.  The drawing will be held at the “Celebrate America” Pot Luck on July 1 at the Niemans.

So, don’t delay, get your raffle tickets now!!!

"Celebrate America" Pot Luck for 2006

On Sat., July 1, the Niemans will host the now annual BMC “Celebrate America” Pot Luck.

As at any BMC event you can count on a lot of fun, friendship and plenty of good food.   In addition, there will be a wiffle ball game in the street, a corn hole tournament, marshmallow roasting and probably a few card games played late into the night.

The fun will begin at 4:00 p.m.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and your drink of choice.  There will be a charge of $3.00 per person and the meat will be provided.

Please RSVP by Sat., June 24 to Jane and Jerry.

July Dump of the Month

The July Dump of the Month will be held at the Island House on Buckeye Lake on July 19th at 7pm.  They have a pretty good jazz band on Wednesday nights in the summer and the food is good also.    Wednesday night is  Mexican night with specials on Corona Beer, Margaritas and a few Mexican dishes.  If you don't care for Mexican food, you can still order from their main menu.

Directions to the Island House:

ZOOM  east out of  Columbus on 70 towards Buckeye Lake.  Take exit 126 (Lancaster-Granville exit) and turn RIGHT off of the freeway.  Go 1.0 miles and turn LEFT on 79 towards Buckeye Lake.  Go 6/10 mile and turn RIGHT on Millersport RD. continue 1.4 miles and turn LEFT at Buckeye State Park- Liebs Island. You are almost there, another 5/10 mile and you will be at the State Park parking lot on both sides of the road.  This is the best place to park and walk down the road a few hundred feet to the Island House.  We will be out on the patio.

Keep in mind, most of the seating is outside (not much inside) and if it rains, the band will probably not show up.  Keep your fingers crossed for nice weather and we will see you on the 19th.

Millie's Pie Run - Sunday, July 23rd

Hi everyone! Ready for a day trip?

Sometimes in my work at AEP I visit some of our power plants, and the plant personnel will tell us about great local dining establishments. One of the better places I've been to is Millie's, near Middleport on the Ohio River. Their specialty is down-home cooking with daily specials ($6.95 including two side dishes), sandwiches, and some fine PIES ($2.00 a slice), handmade right there. I took Brenda there recently for her opinion and we agreed that this would make a great Dump, so we've planned a Saturday trip there.

WHEN - Sunday, July 23rd - Date Change
WHERE - We'll meet at the Bob Evan's in Canal Winchester, off route 33 at Gender Road on the southwest corner.
TIME - To beat Millie's lunch rush, we'll need to leave Bob Evan's by 9am to arrive at Millie's by noon or a little before, so if you want to eat breakfast at Bob's you should arrive there around 8am. Brenda and I have charted some fun roads down and back - it's about a 3 hour tour to Millie's by the roads we're taking. We'll probably be at Millie's for say an hour, hour and a half, then about 2 1/2-3 hours to return.
(AND.....if anyone is game, we know of a great ice cream parlor in Lancaster on the way back - Gypsy Joe's on Fair Avenue!)

ONE IMPORTANT NOTE - Millie's DOES NOT take credit cards or debit cards - cash only, and I don't know WHERE an ATM machine is in the area, so plan accordingly!

For convenience, there's a Kroger gas station right there next to Bob Evan's. We'll have maps marked up for everyone just in case, too.

We hope you can make it! So I can give the ladies at Millie's an idea how many of us to expect, please call us or e-mail us and let us know if you think you might attend. If you think you'll be having breakfast at Bob's, let us know that too. Here's our contacts -

FALL FUN RALLY - Saturday, September 16th

September 16 is the Big Fall Rally Day.

We will meet at the La Rue Park at 10:00 AM. The park address is 272 La Rue Marseilles Road. It is just north of La Rue on State Route 37.

The driver's meeting will be at 10:15 with the first car out at 10:30.

This rally has fewer miles, but lots of clues and neat prizes. So set you VCR to tape the game and come join the fun. Let us know by September 10th so we can make final plans. The cost will be $10.00 per car.

Our e-mail address is: www.hutch173@aol.com

See you soon.

September Dump of the Month - Monday September 18th

This month's Dump of the Month will be held this coming Monday, September 18th, at the Stone Creek
Diner in Pickerington. We'll meet there at 6:30pm. Their menu features daily specials, with fine American fare such as broasted chicken, and great prices.

To get there:
Take I-70 east to the Pickerington/SR256 exit #112. Heading south, follow SR256 past the traffic light at SR204/Tussing Road - stay in the middle lane here. Go about one-half mile (past the Pizzaria Uno), turn left at the traffic light at Stone Creek Drive (imagine that!), then turn right at the first drive into the Stone Creek Diner parking lot.

If you think you might be coming, please e-mail us or give us a call, just so we can have an idea of how many to expect. We held a Dump here last year, and it was a big hit.

Hope to see you there!

DOUBLE DUMP/DOUBLE DIP - Saturday, September 23rd

The 2006 Double Dump/ Double Dip is planned for Saturday, September 23rd.

Where’s Waldo?? , Waldo will be our starting point. The G&R Tavern will be the first DUMP. At 11 AM we will meet at the G&R,
located at the  town square. The G&R is world famous for their fried bologna sandwiches. They serve over a thousand pounds a week. After lunch and a Tums or two the Miatas will head north on SR 98 toward Bucyrus. At Bucyrus we’ll make a comfort stop. Then head north on SR19 to Republic then SR 18 to Bellevue. After the first set of RxR tracks a left turn will put us on Flat Rock Road. After a short distance we’ll swing into the Orchard Grove Assisted Living to say HI to Bill’s aunt. Its then on to Sandusky and the first DIP, Toft’s Dairy, the same as last year. Small cones here are large so order accordingly. From Tofts we’ll head across Sandusky along the waterfront, stopping at a couple docks on our way to the Maritime Museum of Sandusky. The museum is adjacent to the Battery Park Marina, a good place for a stroll and to shop for a BIG boat.

After a re-group our Miatas will head east to the old Cedar Point road to the amusement park, then back on the Cedar Point causeway, the new road to the park. At the mainland we’ll turn right onto First Street, head west past the old Lyman Boat Works and stop at the second DUMP, the East Side Café “Where the Elite Meet to Eat”. The East Side Café features homemade soups and a selection of sandwiches. After lunch/dinner? A string of Miatas will head south on SR 4 and make a stop at a new winery to check out their product. After stocking up we’ll take SR4 to Portland Rd west to CR 302 south to SR 18 to SR 19 to our second DIP on the south side of Bloomville. From there we’ll head home with fuel tanks lighter and our tanks heavier.

4th Annual R.A.T. - Saturday, October 7th

The 4th Annual R.A.T. , a Buckeye Miata Club road trip through Amish country will be held on Saturday October 7, 2006 The start will be at the McDonalds restaurant on SR 62 west of Johnstown. We will leave McDonalds at 08:37 and head east on SR 62, SR 541 and north on SR 60. Some northern Miatas may join us at Riverview High School on SR 60 just north of SR 36. At Riverview High School we’ll make a pit stop and hopefully find their facilities open. North we go on SR 60 to Kilbuck where we will take SR 62 east to SR 83 south a short distance we will turn left at County Rd 19 and leave the State routes for some secondary roads that will take us to Charm. We may meet up with members of the North Coast Miata Club in Charm. The annual Charm Days Festival is the following weekend so the little village will have fewer buggies (bad) and parking should not be a problem (good) Keim Lumber Company will be open until noon, and maybe later this year, on Saturday and is a must see for our woodworking members. In Charm there is much to see. We will take time to explore the many shops. This year we will plan to eat in Charm at the Homestead Restaurant. A return activity this year will be graduation from Charm School. I plan to take along a graduation gown, mortarboard and diploma for anyone liking their picture taken in front of Charm School. Bring your own camera. After lunch settles we’ll jump in our Miatas for a short drive to the Miller Bakery, a welcome stop last year suggested by the Johnsons. I plan to pick up some Lego candy sold there. After Charm our next stop will be The Lehman Hardware Store in Kidron, an interesting store which features non-electric appliances, hand tools and things you didn’t think were made anymore. Some other interesting stops could be; The Warther Carving Exhibition in Dover. Ernest Warther, a master carver presents an amazing display of hand carved wonders. Other areas of interesting are Mt Hope, Winesburg, Trail, Walnut Creek, Sugar Creek, Berlin and Millersburg. After a day of dodging road apples the group will head west on SR 39 to Loudenville. We will take some back roads past Mohican State Park and pick up SR 97 to Lexington where we will stop for dinner at Buck’s restaurant, a race fan kinda place. After dinner we will go our separate ways.
