Hocking Hills Winter Hike January 15th

How many of you made resolutions to get more exercise this year?  Here's your chance to do that and enjoy the fresh air and beauty of the Hocking Hills at the same time.
The 40th Annual Winter HIke at Old Man's Cave takes place Saturday, January 15th and at least a few hearty souls from the BMC will make the trip with 3,000 to 5,000 others.  It is a six mile hike from Old Man's Cave to Ash Cave with bean soup, corn bread, hot drinks and restrooms at the half way point.  At the end, there are fresh donuts and hot chocolate while you wait for the next bus to return you to the parking lots.  There are also buses at the halfway point for anyone wanting to call it quits but once you've seen the beauty of the Hocking Hills in the winter, you won't want to leave.  If we get a cold spell this week you'll see breathtaking ice formations and if it continues to rain beautiful water falls way beyond what you've seen in the summer months.  Be sure to dress in layers for warmth as well as the ability to remove a layer once you get down in there and out of the wind.  Walking sticks also make the trek a little easier.
The group will leave from our house at 7:30 am.  There's plenty of room to leave cars here and ride together since most of us have put our babies into hibernation for the winter.  This is still a BMC trip even without the Miatas so there will be a stop on the return trip for a meal - location to be determined by the group.  Join the walk - you'll have a lot more fun than spending time on your treadmill.

Directions to our house:

Take 270 to the HIlliard exit  (Exit 13 from the north - 13B from the south)
Go west on Cemetery Road to Lacon Rd (1st light after the underpass)
Turn left on Lacon Road
Turn left on Crandon Road (just past the school)
Turn left on Paxton Drive (at the stop sign)
Our house is straight ahead of you - 3390 - a white ranch with brown trim

Please call (876-4436) or e-mail (BRG3533@aol.com) to let us know you're coming even if you don't make the decision till early Saturday morning.

Clifton Mill Road Trip

Hello all, the annual road trip to Clifton Mill will take place on Saturday, April 30th rain or shine!

We will gather at Hilliard Davidson High School parking lot (next to the football stadium) at 8:30 a.m. for a prompt 9:00 a.m. departure.  I need you to RSVP by April 15th so I can notify the Mill on the number to expect.  This has become a traditional kickoff of our club's driving adventures for the up coming season.  We will take the scenic route to Clifton Mill arriving there about 10:30 a.m. and having breakfast or lunch.  From there we will drive a short distance to beautiful John Bryan State Park for a walk along the Little Miami River.  The wild flowers should be spectacular that time of year.

There is a shelter house and picnic tables where we start our walk for those that don't want to go hiking.  After the walk we will head on to Young's Dairy for a treat, maybe even some miniature golf at Utters & Putters!  In the past some of us have continued on to Mershon's to check out the Vettes and Muscle cars in Spingfield.  Who knows, we may even have dinner together somewhere.  It's happened before!

                                     2005 MILK CAN FEAST

NOTICE:  This year the milk can feast will be held at a new location.

It will be at Chapel Hill House located at 3892 Morral-Kirkpatrick Rd. W. Marion, Ohio 43302.

Chapel Hill House was created with the hope of giving families that has a child with cancer a place for a time of peace and togetherness.

Chapel Hill House is a restored 1835 log house originally located in southeastern Ohio and relocated in Marion County on 71 acres of secluded meadows and wildflowers, woods and a running stream.

The house has most modern conveniences, in spite of the 1835 restoration, including central heat and air, along with a complete cooking facilities and a phone. Chapel Hill House has been recreated to an image of 1835 in the original cabin with an oversized limestone fireplace, wood plank floors, and chinked walls. In the tradition of old times, the main floor is all one room which has a tiger maple canopied pencil post bed with trundle, bird’s eye maple tavern table with benches, comfortable chairs by the fireplace, spinning wheel, and of course a chest full of games and entertainment. The upstairs is a loft with a full size bed and youth bed overlooking the downstairs sitting area and fireplace. The addition to the cabin houses the kitchen and bathroom. All doors are 36” wide to accommodate a wheelchair. Also, a wheelchair ramp is available to the back door.

Larry and Annie Joseph are the owners of Chapel Hill House. They needed help in getting the word out and they were referred to Kids’N Kamp in Columbus, Ohio. The families that use the facilities are scheduled by Kids-N-Kamp. This year we are booked every weekend from April till Thanksgiving. All this is FREE to the families that stay here.

A man’s life is not built on the years he has lived, or the accomplishments he has achieved, but most importantly, the difference he has made in other peoples’ lives. Larry Joseph lost his own battle with cancer last January but he is still making a difference in peoples’ lives because of the vision and dream he had to make a difference in the lives of families and kids that deal with cancer.

So with all that said, come take a walk through the woods and listen to the birds and squirrels, maybe see some deer across the meadowland or just sit on the front porch and listen to the stream running peacefully.

PLEASE BRING YOUR LAWN CHAIRS. I will have tables in the barn but you will need to bring a chair.

To those new to the club and not aware what a milk can feast is, it is a complete meal fixed in an old milk can over an open fire.

DIRECTIONS:  Take state route 23 north towards Marion. When you come to route 95 continue north on 23 for nine more miles. Exit at route 231 (Morral Nevada Exit) Turn left onto 231. Go four miles till you come to the town of Morral. Go one mile further on 231 after you crossed the railroad tracks in Morral. The drive will be on the right. There is a wood fence across the front of the property and a five-foot stone pillar with a plaque with the name Chapel Hill House on it. The house sits about ½ mile back off the road. If you come to a crossroad, after the railroad tracks, you have gone too far.
